Kochi JET Visa Guide

This is a guide that has been put together by the PAs to help JETs understand what they need to be doing to keep their visas up-to-date. It’s a good idea to take a look at this guide every year – especially if you are no longer a first or second year JET!

Residence card (在留カードzairyuu kaado)

These are usually issued at the airport when you first arrive into Japan. It has all your important information on it.

If you change address you need to report it to your local City/Town/Village Office. They will update your address on the back of the card.

You will need to renew your visa within 30 days of the expiry date on your Residence card; this is done at the Kochi Immigration Office in Kochi City. It will take 2 visits to complete-1 to hand in the application and documents and 1 to pick up your new residence card.

Your Residence Card is an important document that you need to carry with you at all times, but if you do lose it you can get a replacement. File a lost property report at your local police station, take the form they give you, your passport and a passport photo to the Kochi Immigration Office and apply for a replacement card.
